Welcome to the eighth edition of our monthly blog series highlighting Ternary’s latest FinOps enhancements. In July, we featured enhancements to MSP customer management, forecasting, dashboards, Azure cloud configuration, and Ramp Plans. Our FinOps roundup for August 2024 includes dashboard subscriptions, anomaly investigation, and enhanced AWS rate optimization.
Purpose-built for FinOps, Ternary empowers organizations to establish cloud cost transparency, improve cost and usage efficiency, and foster communication between teams. Read on to discover how our featured August enhancements help partners and customers progress on their FinOps journey.
Dashboard subscriptions
Our experience serving our customers and partners has shown us that custom dashboards are the most popular way that teams access cloud consumption information. Because of this, we continue to enhance our dashboard capabilities. This year, we’ve made several improvements, including layout customization, report tooltips, and a realized savings widget, to name a few.
In August, we introduced dashboard subscriptions! Just as with reports, you can now send dashboards to any email address. This means that both platform users and those without platform access can benefit from the business insights Ternary provides. Users can select the frequency (daily, weekly, or monthly) and specify the time to send the email. You can also tie multiple subscriptions to the same dashboard within a customer tenant.
Whether you’re a FinOps team subscribing your Finance, Engineering, or Leadership team to dashboards or you’re an MSP providing a FinOps service, you can leverage dashboard subscriptions to share cloud cost and usage information tailored to your key stakeholders.
Update to Anomaly Detection: Investigate
Effective anomaly detection and management are forms of proactive cost avoidance. This is crucial because a significant cloud cost anomaly can have a sizable impact on your business. We continue to enhance our anomaly detection functionality to help you quickly identify and address the anomalies most impactful to your business. So far this year, we have introduced prescriptive threshold alerting, enhanced rule configuration, and views by groupings.
We’re excited to unveil an enhancement to Ternary Anomaly Detection that simplifies investigating the root cause of an anomaly. The new “Investigate” button in the Alert window directs you to a detailed report in the Ternary Reporting Engine based on the anomaly’s timestamp. You can refine the report using groupings and filters to more accurately isolate the root cause.
New services supported for AWS rate optimization
Purchasing resource-based commitment discounts (e.g., Reserved Instances) and spend-based commitment discounts (e.g., Savings Plans) is one of the most effective ways to save money in the cloud. Commitments are commonly used for compute resources, but they are also available for non-compute resources, offering additional savings. Ternary helps you purchase and manage these commitments across clouds throughout their lifecycle.
With our latest release, Ternary now offers Reserved Instance purchasing recommendations for Amazon ElastiCache, MemoryDB, OpenSearch, Redshift, and Relational Database Service (RDS). This expands our existing support for EC2 Reserved Instances and Savings Plans for Compute, EC2, and SageMaker.
The Ternary team is dedicated to helping our customers and partners throughout their FinOps journey. Stay tuned for next month’s product enhancements. In the meantime, you can learn more about Ternary or request a demo.
